My Wife Is Pregnant, and Life Already Looks Different
Around May, going into June, we found out my wife was pregnant.
Our baby is due February 6th.
Even writing that feels a little wild. There’s a whole person on the way, and we’re already making room for them in ways I hadn’t thought about.
It’s been beautiful. It’s been an adjustment. And it’s given me a whole new perspective on the woman I get to share my life with.
Our mornings have changed
My wife and I used to work out together every morning. That was our thing.
Get up, get moving, spend that time together, then get into our personal training schedules.
These days, sleep is a bigger priority for her. So we’ve had to shift things around.
Our schedules, our workouts, the way we move around the house—it’s all getting adjusted. I’m learning that the routine we had before pregnancy doesn’t have to be the routine we force ourselves to keep now.
Some mornings, supporting her means letting her sleep.
The trainer in me loves getting up and getting after it. The husband in me is learning to ask, “What do you need today?”
I’m proud of her
One thing I have to brag about: this woman has stayed consistent with working out throughout her pregnancy.
I get to see the effort up close. And I’m proud of her for continuing to make that time for herself while so much is changing.
I’ve trained women during pregnancy before, but experiencing it alongside my wife is different. I see more than the workout. I see the tired mornings, the adjustments, and the days when she has to figure out what feels right for her.
It’s made me appreciate her consistency even more.
And it’s reminded me that I can’t compare her pregnancy to anybody else’s. Every woman has her own experience. I can celebrate what she’s doing without making somebody else’s journey the measuring stick.
Let’s be honest about the body changes
My wife and I care about how we look.
Maybe “care” is putting it lightly. We can both be a little shallow about it. We like looking good. We notice changes. That’s part of our personalities, and I’m not going to pretend pregnancy suddenly switched that off.
So yes, we’ve both been amazed watching her body change.
And yes, some of those changes are hard for her.
You can be excited about your baby and still have a complicated moment in front of the mirror. You can appreciate what your body is doing and still need time to get used to how it looks.
I’m learning to make room for those feelings instead of trying to talk her out of them.
She deserves to be heard, especially while she’s experiencing something I can watch but never fully understand from the outside.
She married a personal trainer. I’m learning to be a better teammate.
I joke that she’s blessed to be married to a personal trainer.
I’m up every morning. I bring the motivation. I’m always ready to get us moving.
But this experience is teaching me something, too.
My enthusiasm isn’t always what she needs most. Sometimes she needs flexibility. Sometimes she needs rest. Sometimes she needs her husband to listen without immediately turning the conversation into a plan.
I can help with a workout. I can also adjust my schedule, change an expectation, and pay attention.
I’m working on all of it.
February 6th is getting real
We’re excited. We’re adjusting. And I know there are changes coming that I can’t even picture yet.
Lord knows what the future has for me.
For now, I’m grateful I get to experience this with her. I’m proud of the way she’s showing up for herself. And I’m watching our life change before the baby has even arrived.
Our mornings look different already.
I have a feeling that’s just the beginning.
